The First "RADLIT Lighting Cup" Home Lighting Innovative Design Competition Successfully Held
On the afternoon of December 20, at the "Maker Innovation" Base of Guangdong University of Technology on Guangzhou University Town, a heated design competition entered its final defense stage. The "RADLIT Lighting Cup" Home Lighting Innovative Design Competition, exclusively sponsored by "RADLIT Lighting" (Guangzhou Bairui Lighting Co., Ltd.), is a university student design event aimed at encouraging innovation and expanding scientific and technological horizons oriented toward industry and business. It was organized by the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Guangdong University of Technology. With the theme of "Home Lighting Design," the competition sought to uncover a number of creative and feasible design solutions, while cultivating students who possess innovative awareness and the ability to carry out design practices in line with market demands. Products were required to align with the aesthetic and consumption preferences of young Chinese consumers (the post‑80s and post‑90s generations), and to integrate both lighting and smart functions.

The competition was originally scheduled to take place in June 2020, but due to the pandemic, it was postponed and finally relaunched for registration at the end of November. In just three weeks, after a rigorous elimination process, 13 innovation and entrepreneurship teams from Guangdong University of Technology were selected. After going through multiple rounds in the preliminary contest, they finally earned the qualification to present their proud works on this final stage. Despite the tight schedule, all contestants completed market research, project design, product styling, functional studies, animation demonstrations, and some even produced physical prototypes – demonstrating profound innovative capabilities, and the feasibility of their products far exceeded expectations.

The judging panel for this competition was highly authoritative: Professor Wang Changhong (Executive Vice Dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Guangdong University of Technology), Mr. Xu Jinzhen (Administrative Vice Dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), Professor Yu Zhaoqin (Professor at the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship), Ms. Chen Yibing (Lecturer at the School of Art and Design), Mr. Zhong Tao (Lecturer at the School of Art and Design), as well as the corporate design director, Mr. He Yonghong.
The judges raised many critical questions about each entry, which truly put the young contestants on the spot at times. But every successful product must go through numerous challenges, after all.

After fierce competition, the first, second, and third prizes, as well as the Best Creativity Award, were announced.
